About Erin

I’m a freelance lifestyle journalist and contributing editor at Parents magazine. I write frequently for Real Simple, Parents, HGTV, Fit Pregnancy & Baby and others. (Before they all folded, I was a regular contributor to Glamour, Parenting and Dr. Oz’s The Good Life. Sigh.) While a contributing editor at Parenting, I launched the popular “Mom Without A Filter” blog, then moved on to a daily blogging position at YAHOO! where my content often made the homepage (and brought out all the internet trolls).

Shortly after graduating from The University of Tennessee (Go Vols!), I began my journalism career on staff at Glamour, where I oversaw the relationship and food and lifestyle pages. I was diagnosed at 23 with chronic myelogenous leukemia and for nearly a decade wrote the award-winning “Life with Cancer” column for Glamour and eventually the daily blog of the same name. My memoir, My So-Called Normal Life, was published by The Overlook Press in 2005. I was also featured in the documentary Crazy, Sexy, Cancer and contributed to the book Crazy, Sexy, Cancer Tips by Kris Carr.

My latest project, The Little Book of Life Skills, was published by Grand Central Publishing/Hachette in 2020. I used my 20 years experience as a magazine journalist to tap top experts for their most streamlined advice on how to make our lives (and minds) run smoother. I wrote the book because I needed it and I still reference it every day!

Now a 19-year leukemia survivor, I sit on the board of directors of both The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s New York City chapter and Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation, founded by philanthropist Denise Rich. I’m a frequent national guest speaker, have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer research and have appeared on television programs including The Today Show, Dateline, Nightline and Good Morning America.

I live on the north shore of Long Island with my husband Nick and our three children. The Little Book of Life Skills is required reading for all of them.
